I especially enjoyed Fortune’s ability to instantly analyze each person she met, right down to illnesses and issues. A cozy read of sorts, there is no bad language, no graphic violence or sex. There is even an old hound dog to add interest and amusement. Quirky characters doing the unexpected provide a delightful story. With the good looking deputy showing up wherever she goes, the two senior citizens belonging to a secret society, AND the dead man’s widow missing, there is plenty to investigate. Her very first day there a body part is discovered in the bayou outside the house she is in. With a price on her head of one million dollars dead and ten million if caught alive, plus the possible leak within the CIA, she is forced into hiding. CIA agent Fortune returns from assignment in hot water after blowing her cover in a major fashion: She killed the brother of one of the largest arms dealers in the Middle East. Published in 2012, it introduces Fortune Redding in the “Miss Fortune Mystery series.
After reading Trouble in Mud Bug, I looked forward to Louisiana Longshot, newly available at Audible. Once you’ve read one book written by Jana Deleon, you can’t help but smile when starting another. The Miss Fortune Mystery Series, Book One
